Dick Quax has been elected the new councillor for the Howick ward of the Auckland Council’s governing body following a by-election which concluded at midday today.
Final results are as follows:
BRIGHT, Penny (Independent) 1491
BURRILL, Maggie (Independent) 7023
COLLINGS, David (Independent) 5393
PARKASH, Ram 1116
QUAX, Dick (C & R) 11600
YOUNG, Wayne (Independent) 1349
There were 37 informal votes and 63 blank votes returned.
30.9 per cent or 28,072 of the 90,901 electors had voted by the close of voting today.
The by-election was required following the resignation of Jami-Lee Ross earlier this year.
"I congratulate Dick Quax on his win in the Howick by-election and also voters for the comparatively large turn-out in a by-election. It's clear that people are keen to have their vote heard in the new Auckland. Dick was a strong advocate for his community in Manukau City and I am sure he will provide a positive voice as a member of the governing body of the new council," Auckland mayor Len Brown said.
