New Delhi, Oct 10 (IBNS) ) Creating history, Somdev Devvarman clinched a gold for India in the Commonwealth Games as he became the first Indian to achieve the feat, beating Australia's Greg Jones 6-4, 6-2 in the men's singles final here on Sunday.

After India's tennis icons like Leander Paes, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza failed, Somdev brought cheers to the Indians bagging the 29th yellow metal for the country and the first ever for tennis in Commonwealth Games.

Archer Rahul Banerjee bagged a gold after shooter Harpreet Singh and women archer Deepika to buttress India's gold haul in the Commonwealth Games on Sunday.

According to latest reports, shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu won bronze in the Men's Singles Trap event.

India now has 29 gold medals in its kitty. 

Indian boxer Jai Bhagwan also sailed into the semifinal of the lightweight category after a 10-0 win. 

India won its 26th gold earlier in the day with Harpreet Singh striking the yellow metal in 25 metre centrefire pistol.

The day also began with gold with Deepika Kumari striking the yellow metal in women's recurve archery event.

Dola Banerjee has won a bronze in the same event. 

Dola Banerjee fought for a bronze and won after she lost to England's Williamson in the semis of the Women's recurve archery singles.

Sushil Kumar has entered the final of the 66kg Freestyle wrestling competition overpowering his Pakistani Mohammad Salman. 

India's Joginder Kumar also made it to the final of the 120 kg freestyle men's wrestling.

India's Anuj Kumar also entered the final of the 84 kg freestyle men's wrestling.

Indian pair of Arattukulam and Balan reached the next round of the mixed-doubles event in badminton.
