New Delhi: India continued its good show on the third day retaining its second position after mighty Australia in overall medals’ tally in the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Wednesday.
While Australia led the field with a total haul of 46 medals including 21 gold, 15 silvers and 18 bronzes, India are going second with 11 golds, 8 silvers and 5 bronzes to total 24 medals at the end of the third day of the competition.
The hosts on Wednesday bagged three golds and a couple of silvers from Shooting.
While Gagan Narang won the gold piping compatriot and Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra to second spot in 10 m air rifle, Anisa Sayyed also finished at the top in 25 m pistol for women overcoming the challenge from teammate Sarnabat Rahi who had to remain contended with the silver.
Wrestler Rajendra Kumar gave the fourth gold to India winning the 55 kg wrestling while Renubala Chanu earned another gold for India in 58 kg category of weight lifting for women.
The last gold of the day for the hosts came through K Ravi Kumar who emerged champion in 69 kg class of weight-lifting for men.
Beside Bindra and Rahi in shooting, India earned two other silvers through the pair of Ranjan Sodhi and Asher Norin who finished second in double trap shooting and Manoj Kumar who bagged another silver for India in 84 kg category wrestling.
India also got three bronzes on Wednesday which came through Dharmeendra Dala in 120 kg category, Prashanta Karmakar 50 m freestyle swimming for para participants and wrestler Sunil Kumar in 66 kg Graeco-Roman category.
