Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a world renowned musician primarily known for his melodic renditions of Qawwali, adevotional music of the sufis and Ghezals(a semi classical) form of Indian music. Rahat hails from a strong musical family and has studied the art of of classical music from his Uncle Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan . Under the tutelage of his uncle, Rahat began his singing career when he was only eleven years old. He made his mark in the Hindi Film Industry , (popularly known as Bollywood) with hits like 'Mann Ki Lagan' from the movie 'Paap' for which he won the Sahara award in 2004 and 'Jiya Dhadak Dhadak' from 'Kalyug' which was nominated both in Filmfare and IIFA awards in 2006. he has thereafter continued to give hits and has made a big name for himself in the Hindi Film Industry . He also made his presence felt in the Television Industry during 2010 when he became one of the judges alongside Sonu Nigam on the popular reality show Chotte Ustaad Star Plus.
With his distinct sufi voice, Unique style and a long list of hits , Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has become one of the most popular singers lending his voice for all big stars such as Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan ,Salman Khan, Naseerudin Shah and Ranbir Kapoor. He won the BEST STAR SCREEN PLAYBACK SINGER award in 2010 for his song 'Aaj Din Chadeya' from the movie 'Love Aaj Kal'. He has been awarded the IIFA award 2010 & Apsara best male playback singer , 2011 for his song 'Tere mast mast do Nain' from the movie 'Dabangg' and the Start Screen BEST MALE PLAYBACK SINGER ,2011 for his song 'Dil toh Bachha Hai jee' from the movie 'Ishqiya. Rahat , with a feast of song would be nominated as the BEST PLAYBACK SINGER (male) for all the other Hindi Film Industry that are due to be held in 2011. In Pakistan ,Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is famous for nationalistic songs such as Dharti Dharti , Hum Pakistan and Aman ki Aasha. He is also very well known for his various melodius tracks compiled for the Pakistani Drama industry.
This musical maestro is not only well known in the Indian and Pakistani music circuit , but has also made a name for himself in international arena. He has performed a supporting musical role with his uncle , Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan , alongside Hollywood musician Eddie Vedder of the American rock band, Pearl Jam and also contributed to the soundtrack of the 1995 Hollywood film Dead Man Walking . In 2002 , he worked on the soundtrack of Four Feathers in collaboration with the American composer of orhestral and film music, James Horner and he performed as a guest musician. After a sell-out performance in 2010 in Sydney Australia , Rhat is back by popular demand with his group of musicians to perform a mixed repertoire of memorable Qawwalis, including a tribute to his late Uncle, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan , devotional Sufi renditions and his greatest Bollywood hits.
