Controversial movie “Dear Friend Hitler” is not about the German dictator’s ideology but how his ideology of violence conflicts with Mahatama Gandhi’s ideology of peace,” says producer Dr Anil Sharma.
“After unveiling the first look of this film on Adolf Hitler at the Berlin Film Festival, it’s clear that the film doesn’t glorify Hitler, but scrutinise him against Gandhi’s ideology of peace.”
The movie caused much controversy last year when it was in planning stages. Bollywood legend Anupam Kher, who was initially selected to play Hitler, backed out.
Dr Sharma said “Dear Friend Hitler” would be the first Bollywood movie to deal with such a receptive subject.
“With the first look in Berlin film festival, the movie has fetched the interest of the masses all over the world. The look and feel of the movie is of international echelon and the idea of an Indian actor playing the character of Hitler is appreciated at the Berlin film festival.”
“The actors of the movie have basically worked on their part of character rather than highlighting on the controversial facet of the movie,” Dr Sharma said.
Raghuvir Yadav, who plays Hitler said it was much difficult to play such a multifaceted character as Hitler. Neha Dhupia plays Hitler’s mistress Eva Braun.
“When we took the out-takes of the film to the Berlin Film Festival, the audience was excited at the prospect of seeing such a subject and the character of Hitler played by Bollywood actor, Dr Sharma said.
“Berlin Film Festival gave a clear depiction of the movie all over the world. Filmmakers got a chance to clear their misconception about the movie that it’s not about Hitler ideology but how his ideology of violence conflicts with Gandhis ideology of peace.
“There is no appraisal or reverence of Hitler’s character in the movie.”
